Continuing the subject of space travel and satellites…
Here is Nadieh Bremeh’s visualisation of all the satellite’s in space, commissioned by Scientific American in 2020.
Nadieh started out as an astronomer before wanting to flex her creative muscles, becoming a data visualiser.
What’s immensely cool about this infographic is the mix of data visual types that all come together to make a stunning and creative Viz.
(For you nerds she combined D3s treemap method with the force layout to ensure none of the circles overlapped. Each circle had a surface area that related to the weight of the data, and the square they were in in the treemap. Some creative tweaks were made here and there to make it all fit. It was then illustrated as vector graphics and tweaked in Illustrator during the lovely back and forth process that is working with a print magazine.)
